Tim Ho Wan

People refer to Tim Ho Wan as “The world’s most affordable Michelin-starred restaurant”. Dim sum specialist Tim Ho Wan, from Hong Kong, earned his first Michelin star for his shop in Mongkok, Kowloon. In addition, Mak Kwai Pui and Leung Fai Keung hail from Hong Kong’s Lung King Keen restaurant, a three Michelin-starred establishment.

Their Hong Kong Braised Beef Noodle Soup is something you should experience. They stuff the dish with the flavours of Chinese spices. Also, they are thin and springy Hong Kong noodles. The dim sum experience at Tim Ho Wan would not be complete without trying the Hot and Spicy Pork Dumplings. You’ll also love the bouncy texture of these pork dumplings. Four Seasons Restaurant

The Four Seasons Restaurant is a part of the world-renowned Four Seasons Durian—a well-known company for its great food. Recently, the restaurant introduced its halal-certified dim sum menu. You can eat a wide variety of dim sum dishes, including Siew Mai, Har Kow, egg tarts, wantons and more. In addition, Four Seasons Restaurant is well-known for its Durian speciality dishes.

You must try Four Seasons if you love durian or want to sample food cooked with it. There is a speciality section on the restaurant’s menu focusing on durian ingredients. If you’re curious about their durian menu, obviously, the Durian Hot Pot is an excellent choice. The broth contains chicken, red dates, and durian that add sweetness to the broth, making it flavourful.

Yun Nans

Yun Nans is the first overseas branch of Yun Hai Yao, the largest casual F&B chain in Yunnan. They were known for their Yunnan ethnic highland cuisine.

Kam’s Roast

If you’re looking for great roast dishes, Kam’s Roast is a must-try. Their famous Kam’s Roast invented Singapore’s first chenpi-marinated pipa duck. The Executive Chef, Chef Wong Kwan Sang, had the idea of introducing the Pipa Duck to Singapore after customers requested it. But, unfortunately, the Pipa Duck is rarely sold in Singapore, unlike the usual Roast Duck and Peking Duck.

A whole duck is usually split and flattened like the Chinese musical instrument Pei Pa – hence the name. This cooking method adds a layer of crunch to the skin but does not affect the tenderness. Indeed, Kam’s Roast Pipa Duck is the only duck dish marinated with 23-year-old Chenpi (orange peel). Also, the orange peel provides a fruity aroma. The longer the aged Chenpi, the better the flavour.

Chef Wong Kwan Sang’s recipe contains a secret blend of seasoning ingredients passed down since Hong Kong’s Yung Kee Restaurant in 1954 and perfected by the restaurant’s founder Mr Kam Shui Fai. Pipa Duck’s glossy golden-brown skin has a unique crunch, but the meat remains moist, flavorful, seasoned, and cooked.

The Pipa Duck is available in limited quantities and should be ordered at least a day in advance due to the time and effort required to prepare each duck. However, if you want to try a little bit of everything, Without a doubt, the Four Treasure Rice is a great dish to order.

There is also an International Muslim Food Stall, Nasi Lemak, in Changi Village Hawker Centre. Another great Nasi Lemak spot. Their basic Chicken Set includes an egg, a chicken wing, sambal, and Ikan Bilis.

Customers often praise this stall’s spicy and delectable sambal chilli. Additionally, the stall has maintained its standards over many years, to much praise. Especially their coconut milk-infused rice had a fantastic aroma without being greasy.

In addition, the grains were cooked and given the right consistency. This sambal had a natural sweetness from seasoned onions, umami-savoury notes from dried anchovies, and a spicy kick from different peppers. The chicken skin was thin but crunchy and crisp. Yet, its meat was tender, moist, and full of flavour.

Weng Kee Ipoh Hor Fun

Weng Kee Ipoh Hor Fun is a must-try if you feel adventurous. It has been one of Singapore’s finest Ipoh Hor Fun restaurants since 1980. Their Chicken Cutlet Hor Fun is delicious. The crunchy skin and the juicy meat inside made this chicken cutlet a perfect meal. When combined with that special sauce, it’s pure perfection.

The taste of gravy and chilli combined with the crunch of chicken chops is addictive. Next, the chef serves Silky noodles with a healthy serving of gravy. It was the perfect combination of lightness and heaviness from the sauce and noodles. In addition, it’s relatively cheap at $3.50 per plate.

Sari Bistari Changi Village

Changi Village Food Centre offers a variety of must-try stalls. This restaurant is one of them. One of the things that makes this stall memorable is the massive chicken leg with crispy skin. Without a doubt, the meat underneath is juicy and succulent, served with warm cucumber and tomato.

You can hear the batter crackle when you bite it. It was surprising how spicy the brown sambal appeared so mild. I was expecting it to be sweeter, but it was pretty hot. Also, you can taste both green and red chilis in the sambal, especially because they used chicken stock to flavour the chicken rice.

Plus, you get a sizeable chunk of Ayam Penyet, a generous mound of rice, a bowl of soup, and many sauces for only $4. Despite its crisp exterior, the chicken meat underneath was juicy and not overcooked. Also, their rice had a strong onion flavour as it was very fragrant.

Besides the food itself, the accompanying sauces enhanced the flavour. This savoury dish was sweetened and heated by the dark sauce. Clearly, their Ayam Penyet is delicious and nostalgic, one of the best in Singapore.
